Let me show you how. Look at the two digit number 17.

The digit in the tens place is 1. So it place value is tens.

The digit in the units place is 7. So it place value is 7.

When we add both of place value, we get 10 plus 7.

This is expanded form of 17. So we expanded form 17 is 10 plus 7.

That the place of all digits of a number written as an addition is the expanded form of the number. It’s that easy!

Let’s take another two digit number. 68, here 6 is in the tens place.

So it place value is 60 and 8 is in the units place. So it place value is 8.

So expanded form 68 is 60 plus 8. Let’s go for activity.

Write the expanded form of the two digit numbers.

The expanded form 75 is 70 plus 5. The expanded form 39 is 30 plus 9.

The expanded form of 88 is 80 plus 8. The expanded form of 20 is 20 plus 0.

The expanded form of 64 is 60 plus 4.
